Climate Tracker is launching its COP23 Fellowship stacked with opportunities and prizes for Trackers from everywhere in the world!

With the signing of the Paris Agreement almost two years behind us, the fellowship challenges inspired writers to step up their games and tell stories on The Renewable Energy Transition.

Around the world, Renewable energy is driving bigger changes than we have seen in generations, and the pressure is on for countries to take their transitions even further.

If you want to be part of this transition, it’s time to raise your voice, and join the opportunity for a FULLY FUNDED trip to COP23, in Germany in November.

1. Who can apply?

All young writers from around the world interested in writing inspiring stories and publishing them are invited to participate. Five of them will be rewarded with a spot to COP 23 in Germany.

2. What do I have to write about?

There are 3 publishing windows, during which you will have to write at least 1 article about a specific topic. You will have to write at least one article on each topic to be eligible for the prizes. That means at least 3 articles in total:

  • Topic 1 (1July – 31 July): The Clean Energy Revolution

During the first publishing window, writers are encouraged to: (1) describe the importance of, and the opportunities for, clean energy in their country or region; (2) explain how the fossil fuel industry is having negative impacts on climate change, endangering millions of people, and (3) call out for a higher ambition in executing the well-underway clean energy revolution.

  • Topic 2 (1Aug – 31 Aug): Supporting Climate Finance

To ensure the well-being of future societies and to achieve the climate goals that have been set, we have to invest in the future. It’s time to take up responsibility and make sure where climate money is going.

  • Topic 3 (1 Sep – 30 Sept): Climate and health

Climate change is impacting each and every one of us on a very personal level that many of us don’t even realize, namely our health. With climate action, we have the chance to save millions of lives.

Don’t forget that articles have to be on the suggested topic, have to be recently published (so from June onward), and should be news articles.

By writing on these topics, you’re eligible to win a spot on our team at COP23 in Bonn. This will cover flight, accommodation, entry into the COP and guidance by the Climate Tracker team. Other prices to win include online writing fellowships, for which you receive a stipend and personal guidance from Climate Tracker to write about climate change issues in your region.

3. What is a publishing window?

A publishing window is the time you have to publish a certain amount of articles about a certain topic. The 1st publishing time for this campaign is from the 1st of July to the 31st of July.

4. Where do I publish my article?

You have to find a news site, blog, newspaper, magazine… willing to publish your article. It can be at a national, regional, local or international level. Aim for the one with best outreach, and avoid fake news websites.

5. Can I use other formats aside from writing?

Yes, you can also send Climate Tracker a picture series (as long as you published it somewhere), video (upload your video it in youtube and send the link, or radio.

6. In which language can I publish my article?

You can publish in any language you prefer. You can choose depending on which audience you want to reach and why.

7. Am I eligible to apply?

Participants from all countries between the ages of 18 and 30 years old are eligible for the #RaiseUParis opportunity.

There are a special set of Countries, and Climate Tracker will DEFINITELY SELECT at least ONE PERSON from the following Countries:

8. What is a writing fellowship?

After submitting your articles, you are eligible to win a writing fellowship with Climate Tracker. Writing fellows are paid to deliver a certain amount of articles about certain topics. They also receive personalized training by Climate Tracker and get help in refining their publishing skills. It is an amazing opportunity to grow as a writer and to collaborate with the Climate Tracker team.

9. How will the Trackers be selected?

The best writers will be chosen among the applicants by analysing their outreach and writing skills. Writers with the best general score make a chance to one of 5 fully funded fellowships to join us at COP23 in Bonn, Germany, in November.
