At SustyVibes, we focus on using art, pop culture, and creative expression to help young people connect with and understand sustainability. We believe in building a sense of community and creating memorable experiences while also working towards our goal of making a positive impact on the environment.
As part of our efforts to blend art and advocacy – artvocacy, we organized a movie screening on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the SLT lecture theatre, University of Ibadan. We were thrilled to have over a hundred guests join us for the event.
The movie we featured was “Don’t Look Up,” which used humour to show how people often underestimate the seriousness of climate change. We wanted to convey important messages about environmental issues in an entertaining way that would resonate with young audiences.
Besides the movie, we had a Spoken Word Performance by poet Hikmah, who emphasized the urgent need to address climate change. We also hosted a panel session with experts like Sonia Ugwunna, Victor Oyejide, and Moses Ogunsola, who discussed how young people can lead climate advocacy efforts through campaigns and behaviour change projects. The panel highlighted the energy, creativity, and passion of young people in building a climate-resilient future.
Our guests enjoyed every part of the event, from the entertainment to the informative sessions. The room was filled with excitement, and we’re eager to host more events that combine fun and learning. We believe that this approach makes a significant impact and encourages people to take action.
