SustyVibes Awards, 2023: Celebrating Vibes, Fun, and Sustainability!
What happens when you gather a community passionate about sustainability, add a sprinkle of fun, and top it off with a special virtual awards night? You get the SustyVibes Awards, 2023! This year marked our Big 7th Sustyversary, and the Awards Night was one of the highlights of the celebration. We had a blast regardless of it being virtual as it had a unique blend of excitement and environmental consciousness. It was an event to remember!
On April 21st, 2023, we hosted our Virtual Awards Night via Zoom, and our communities showed up in a touch of green. The night was filled with vibes, laughter, and celebration as the community gathered to recognize and honour outstanding individuals who had achieved success in their work. We had several award categories which are as follows:
Rookie of the Year Award.
This prestigious award acknowledged a new SustyViber who had not only embraced the brand but had also displayed exceptional dedication and performance within the community. Our winner for this category was Jessica Conno, as she captured the hearts of her fellow members with her unwavering commitment.
Prime Player & Zappy finger Award
We also had the Prime Player Award which was created to acknowledge a SustyViber who exemplified teamwork and consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to fulfilling tasks. Miriam Ituah emerged as the well-deserved recipient of this award, and not stopping there, she also won the Zappy Fingers Award, recognizing her swift responses and active engagement on social media platforms.
Brainiac Award
In the pursuit of knowledge and engagement, the Brainiac Award was introduced to honour a SustyViber known for their deep passion and involvement within the community. Hope Lekwa was awarded this prestigious award, reflecting his outstanding contributions to the SustyVibes family.
Susty Payor
But it wasn’t just about individual achievements. SustyVibes values the unwavering commitment of its members, and the winners of the Susty Payor Award exemplified this dedication. Tairat Bashorun, Oluwatobi Olusina, and Adebola Adesida were recognized for consistently paying their dues and supporting the organization’s goals.
Stellar Service Award
Acknowledging exceptional service, the Stellar Service Award shone a light on Opeyemi Ogundeji, our dear staff member and leader who consistently went above and beyond in her role. Her dedication and outstanding performance were truly deserving of this recognition.
SustySquad Award
As you might know, community is at the core of SustyVibes, and the SustySquad Award was introduced to honour the community that best embodied this essence. The Lagos community emerged victorious, having organized incredible hangouts, encouraged volunteer engagement, and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing the organization’s mission and vision.
Fantastic Force Award
Recognizing the importance of volunteer engagement, the Fantastic Force Award was given to the Volunteer Engagement Management team. Their contributions to the development of SustyVibers and the promotion of member engagement were invaluable, and their efforts were celebrated during the awards night.
At our virtual anniversary, we were privileged to hear an amazing speech from our founder Jennifer Uchendu, which truly captured the essence of our journey and the impact of our work. With pride, she spoke of how far we have come as a community, from our start as a blog to where we stand today.
Jennifer lauded the teams and members for their work and how impactful we all have been, thus, underscoring our commitment to making a real difference in the world. Overall, her speech was a testament to the strength of SustyVibes and the passion young people carry.
Finally, to celebrate the accomplishments of the award winners, SustyVibes prepared special goody bags filled with eco-friendly treats. Each recipient received a bamboo cup and straw, a t-shirt, a key holder, and a tote bag—practical reminders of their achievements and commitment to sustainability.
In a departure from the conventional wooden or glass award plaques, SustyVibes decided to embrace sustainability by presenting e-awards. This forward-thinking approach not only reduced expenses but also minimized the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing physical awards. Additionally, e-awards allowed winners to easily share their achievements virtually, spreading the message of sustainability far and wide.
Our Sustyversary virtual party was nothing short of fun, and even though we weren’t in the same location, our distances couldn’t hold anything against us.
