SustyVibes

Bodija Street Conference

The Sustyvibes street conference in Ibadan took place at Bodija market on Saturday, 26th of January, 2019.
Participants met at UI gate before taking the conference down to the market place. We spoke to traders along the way. While some were receptive, others were not. In the market, we spoke to several traders and some buyers, linking pollution and its effects to various Sustainable Development Goals (3, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15).

We explained how pollution and burning of waste leads to climate change and how they can reduce waste generated. For example, encouraging their customers to come back with plastic (nylon) bags given to them to reduce waste and cost.

Some traders shared their grievances on inadequate support from the government in keeping their environment clean. They complained of late waste pickup which leads to indiscriminate waste disposal. We encouraged them to keep doing their part in terms of waste reduction and disposal.
We got a lot of positive responses from most traders and even some buyers we spoke to.They agreed that waste management is important for our environment and health and that they had a major role to play in ensuring a healthier earth.

At 11:30am, we headed back to UI gate for refreshments, networking and of course pictures. We were all very happy to have been able to plant susty seeds in the hearts of people, where they would hopefully grow and lead to sustainable actions and attitudes.
