Major agriculture financers along with the U.N. agencies and other research organizations are concerned about the effects of climate change on small-time farmers and their activities.
At the five-day African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, the Major agriculture financers and noted the overall impacts of climate change and its effects on farming
“We must continue to develop climate resilience and work towards enhancing farmers’ capacity to deal with the climate change effects causing drought in every three year-cycle in the Sub-Saharan Africa region,” Boddupalli Prasanna, Lead Maize Specialist at Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) said at the ARGF event held from the 4th to 8th of September.
Prasanna also noted that the drought the East African region, along with the armyworm outbreak in 30 East African countries have left 16 million people food insecure and threatened the ability to grow and produce crops
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) called for partnerships between the small time farmers and the entire production food chain, to reduce the potential financial impact of climate change on small-scale farmers and the food production chain at large.
