It was an epoch-making day at Kayode Taiwo Zone on Saturday, 22 April 2017, when the first ever EASTER PAINT SPLASH got underway. It was organized by the executives of the zone.
It was an idea primarily put together to achieve the following objectives:
- Foster community spirit
- Encourage volunteerism
- Get neighbors to know themselves
- Inculcate the dignity of Labour
- Meet a need through self-help
After the introduction of speed bumps on the 630m long Kayode Taiwo Street, there was a need to highlight these bumps which had become a safety hazard to unsuspecting motorists who run into it unknowingly.
The Chairman promised to highlight one of these bumps. It was in the process of accomplishing this that the idea was birthed.
In conjunction with GO-FORTE, an environment based NGO, plans were put in place to get every cadre of age bracket involved in the exercise. Children between ages 4 and 14 were organized to paint on canvas and create very innovative motifs with the assistance of world-renowned artists who were part of the whole ensemble. Face painters were on hand to paint the children’s faces.

Face painters were on hand to paint the children’s faces. Children between the ages 15 and 21 were organized to paint various cartoon characters on the street using water colors and colored chalk.
The adults were organized into eight groups to paint the bumps, the curbs, the street shoulders and mark the street median.The interesting aspect was the carnival-like atmosphere that pervaded the day. There were live music and cartoon characters available to add colour to the day.
Grandfathers and grandmothers in their 70s joyfully painted the bumps. Nobody was spared. The drivers, house helps guards, tenants, landlords, male and female, all participated. The participants were adorned in special T-shirts which added color to the event.
At the end of the day, the multiple objectives of the exercise were achieved and it’s going to become an annual event for the zone.
