History will again be made on July 7th and 8th, 2017 in Cape Coast, Ghana as Africans will gather for the 2017 African Clean Up Conference to tell their own story and determine ways forward for a greener and cleaner Africa.
Themed, ‘Exploring New Horizon and Sustainable Best Practice in Waste Management and Recycling,’ professional and experienced environmentalists are billed to deliver papers as well as discuss and proffer solutions to related environmental issues affecting the continent at the conference. Over 200 delegates are expected for the conference and award night. “The intent of the Africa Clean Up Conference and Award is to create a platform for Africans to recognize and discuss their peculiar environmental challenges and determine indigenous solutions that best tackle their issues. And as well encourage individuals and organization whose initiative and best sustainable practice is contributing to conserving Africa
“Dearth of information among our citizens makes environmental best practices in African a mirage. It is high time we come together to share ideas so as to minimize the threat of climate change,” said Alex Akhigbe, the founder of African Clean Up Initiative, Convener of African Clean Up Conference and Award.

The 2016 African Clean Up Conference which was held in Nigeria had speakers like: Desmond Majekodunmi, a Renowned Environmental Expert, Mr. Ola Oresanya, Former Managing Director, Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Mr Nosa Aigbedion, Lagos State Coordinator of NESREA, Nnimmo Bassey, an Environmental Activist, Paul O’Callaghan, CEO of WestAfricaENRG, and others. The event was duly endorsed by African Youth Initiative on Climate Change in Gambia and Federal Ministry of Environment in Nigeria and supported by Hypo, Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPARK).
African Clean Up Initiative is also the Convener of the Clean-Up Nigeria Project and Campus Clean-Ups Project that has succeeded in cleaning over 12 local community in Lagos State and has raised hundreds of environmentally conscious citizens as Volunteers.
