Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies (JJMDC) launched a new sustainability capacity for its CareAdvantage product, which is designed to help health systems achieve specific environmental, waste management, cost savings and sustainable purchasing goals.

According to a survey run by JJMDC, there is a growing demand among US health system executives for sustainability strategies in the healthcare ecosystem.

The survey among 92 participants from large US health systems found that 9 out of 10 clinicians and health executives, i.e. 92 and 88 percent respectively, believe that sustainability provides long-term cost savings.

In addition, “Voices for Value Insights Series” found that the majority agrees that sustainability provides long-term additional benefits, such as protecting the environment (76 percent), improving patient care (73 percent), and increasing the ability to manage risk and regulatory performance (68 percent).

An impressive 95 percent answered that they believe that environmental sustainability contributes to the value of care delivered in their jolistic health system.

The CareAdvantage Sustainability capability enables reprocessing across a broad spectrum of product categories to include both JJMDC and non-JJMDC single-use devices.

It also includes practical tools and educational resources to help health systems create sustainability programs with financial and environmental benefits while implementing best practices for measuring and communicating the value of sustainability in healthcare.

According to the company’s press release, the CareAdvantage Sustainability capability can also help the Purchasing and Sustainability teams to meet their Environmental Preferable Purchasing (EPP) goals, through EPP assessments.

Melinda Thiel, Vice President, Customer Marketing & Solutions at JJMDC said: “Drawing on our extensive experience in sustainability, we can provide health systems with a broad portfolio of sustainably sourced medical devices to help them meet their commitment to environmental stewardship efficiently and cost effectively”.

“This is just one element of how we approach customer needs, which starts with listening and leads to a holistic, tailored approach to help them reach their goals and deliver measurable results”.
