Susty Party 2018-Art For SDGs

We’ve had a great year here at SustyVibes.

Many milestones have been achieved this year, one of the ones we’re most proud of is the progress from the girls of our  Street Dreams Project. Last year, inspired by Maria Okese–one of the 8th graduating students–we created the Street Dreams Initiative to give girls in Niger Delta the opportunity to tell their own stories through photojournalism. Over the course of the year, the girls have trained with many renowned Nigerian photojournalists and have gradually come into their own as story tellers. We have had the privilege of witnessing their growth every step of the way. Now, thanks to our partners and the Street Dreams girls, you can too.

The girls recently completed their first year of training, and we believe  it is only right that we give them a befitting graduation; and exhibiting their works for art and photography enthusiasts, and environmentalists is one of the best ways to do so while potentially securing financial benefits through sales of their photographs. Which is why we decided that our end-of-the year Susty Party this year will be dedicated to the girls and their work.

Like the typical Susty Party vibe, the forthcoming event will have food, drinks and lighthearted discussions about what sustainability means to you. This event is somewhat similar to past SustyParties (Hint: 2017’s ‘Dance For SDGs’ at Lagos Islands’ historical landmark, Freedom Park). Our theme for this year is ART. Showing, Discussing and Understanding the role of art in Sustainable development.

We have three people within the art space discussing the role of art in achieving the SDGs. Our panelists–Photographer Bernard Kalu, and multidisciplinary artist, Jekein lato-unah– will discuss art advocacy with Adiya Atukulu, a Sustainability consultant and fellow SustyViber. As well as spoken word poetry from Kombart.

We will also hold a raffle where sustainable materials can be won (think: upcycled furniture).

The Arts For SDGs SustyParty will be held on the 8th of December 2018, at African Artists’ Foundation in Victoria Island. It will begin at 12pm and end at 6pm, and will be hosted by Ayo Wright and Kiki Mordi

This event will be hosted

We can’t wait to see you there!
