When we featured Adesoji Adeyemi-Adejolu as our #SustyPersonOftheWeek, we told you about a susty movie his organisation, The Valuable Waste Initiative was working on, today, we are excited to announce that the movie is about to be released and a line-up of activities have been arranged for the grand launch (details soon).
The organisation has four primary objectives;
- Use the film as a communication tool in community development.
- Create awareness on proper waste management culture and the effects of waste on climate change in Africa.
- Educate people on the benefits of waste sorting and recycling which are key components of environmental sustainability.
- Engage stakeholders to contribute and participate towards the growth of a clean and healthy environment in Africa.
- Improve the recycling culture in Africa.
- Engage youths in environmental advocacy and lead a revolution in the waste management and recycling sector in Africa.
We laid our hands on the official trailer and wanted our readers to have a feel of the movie focused primary on the issue of waste in Africa and showcases the various ways recycling helps to solve the problem of pollution and convert waste to a variety of economic opportunities.
The Valuable Waste Movie would be the first of its kind in Nigeria produced and directed by a Nigerian youth with help from many stakeholders as would be showcased in the movie. The movie has scenes shot in various parts of Nigeria and West Africa and is directed mostly to young Africans to join in the fight against pollution as we continue to #StareDownOnPollution and also to begin to appreciate waste as a valuable material that offers many benefits when explored.
The documentary project, born out of Adesoji’s passion for the environment and a strong desire to create a change in the African society towards a sustainable environment takes us on a journey through the present state of waste in Nigeria especially with the emergence of recycling companies and some of the youths working in this field in Nigeria.
Adesoji speaking on the time spent creating this movie says: It has been a very challenging experience more so having to shoot the documentary film across the coastal borders of West Africa. For me, its more than just a film; it’s a movement that is set to build our environmental consciousness in Africa, this present time and the future beyond. I identified an information gap where environmental awareness is concerned in Africa and I decided to close this loop through the “The Valuable Waste” documentary film.
