2023 Susty Party: Fostering Sustainability, Nature, Well-being, and Community in Nigeria

On Saturday, April 29, we commemorated our sustyversary celebrations with a Susty party centred around sustainability, nature, well-being, and community. For folks who don’t know about our susty parties, our susty parties are where we bring together people to discuss trending sustainability issues, network, have fun and party with other susty friends. This year, our focus was on Nature, Well-being, and Community.

Though we were met with a little drizzle, that didn’t stop our party from being a massive hit, thanks to our guests who showed up in colourful,  vibrant floral fits our guests. The highlight for many people was the food. We served up delicious, healthy snacks, food and drinks made from locally sourced, sustainable ingredients.

We kept things susty as we had our panel discussion on eco-anxiety and community resilience which was moderated by the incredible Ayomide Olude from The Eco-Anxiety Africa Project, (TEAP). The conversation was engaging and lively, as our guest speakers Hope Lekwa, Head of Research at SustyVibes, and Anthony Ojukwu, TEAP Project Researcher, shared their expertise and insights on dealing with eco-anxiety both as individuals and as members of a community. Our speakers reminded us that we as part of people who live off the earth must take time to care for it and in doing so we should also care for our mental well-being.

Not forgetting the eco-friendly product exhibition, featuring innovative products from MitiMeth, QuadLoop, Salpha Energy, GIVO, Casa Vegan and our own susty merch. Attendees had the chance to explore everything from recycled plastic products to solar products.

Then it was time for our Founder’s speech, and Jennifer delivered a heartfelt speech that left us feeling inspired and empowered. Speaking about our humble beginnings as a blog, to becoming a global movement that is facilitating sustainability projects across Nigeria, Africa, and the world, Jennifer’s speech was a poignant reminder of the impact that individuals and communities can have when they come together to tackle sustainability challenges.

Finally, the event ended with a trivia competition, with prizes sponsored by WURA. The competition was fierce, but it was all in good fun, and attendees left feeling energized and empowered to make a positive impact on the world.

All in all our Susty Party was an unforgettable event that brought together young people from all over Nigeria to explore sustainability issues. By focusing on nature, well-being, and community, we created an inspiring and engaging event that left attendees feeling motivated to make a difference. We can’t wait to see you at our next edition.
