Charged, eclectic and pragmatic are some of the most befitting adjectives to describe the inaugural Repair Fair workshop held at the RCCG Goshen Church, Lekki, Lagos on the 22nd of December, 2018. The event was hosted by The Repair Nest, a coalition of eight young West-African social change activists fixated on creating a network of individuals and organisations that are genuinely interested about transforming the entire African continent into “a place where everyone, no matter their background, will maximize their potential.”
The Repair Fair was attended by students and young professionals across Nigeria’s business, healthcare, hospitality, engineering, sustainability, consulting and financial services sectors; each one of them brimming with ideas and inspirations on how to affect social development in Africa. The participatory and practical solution sessions, networking opportunities and knowledge gained from speakers were some of the high points of the Repair Fair 2018.
Some of the speakers and facilitators at the event were; Dr. Olufemi Olarewaju of Sustainability School Lagos, Abraham Ologundudu of SocialGood Lagos, Kasi Ugo-Beke of Accenture and Edward Popoola of CowryWise who all shared peculiar experiences and wealth of knowledge in the social development space with attendees. Moreover, notable organisations like LifeBank Nigeria, Women Impacting Nigeria, Sound Mind Africa and Cece Yara Foundation were at the exhibition area of the venue to showcase their products and services to attendees.
Barely one month after, impact of the Repair Fair is already being felt as many of the individuals and organisations present at the event have started forging collaborative working relationships – a notable example is the Sound Mind Africa and Arts in Medicine collaboration. With this successful first event, the Repair Nest is set to democratise social development in Africa, one event at a time!
