On Friday, July 15, 2022, I served as a judge at the Junior Achievement Nigeria Student Innovation National Challenge, which was organized in collaboration with BASF. The tournament was between four student teams for the prestigious position of Nigeria’s representative in the Virtual Global Exchange Program.

Seeing kids from many parts of Nigeria share their innovative ideas and creations was fantastic. The teams were students from Methodist Girls Secondary School, Rivers State; Secondary School, Etoi, Akwa Ibom; Government Science and Technical College, Garki, Abuja; and Rhemaville Christian Academy.

Other Judges present were Dr Akintayo Adisa and Ihechukwu Charles, we judged the students openly and fairly, based not just on their understanding of Sustainability concepts but also on the viability and feasibility of their projects.

I was particularly happy and impressed by the overall National winners from Government Science and Technical College, Garki, Abuja, who created interlocking blocks out of discarded single-use plastics. The winners would go on to represent Nigeria in the competition’s global round.

Thank you Junior Achievement Nigeria for the invitation.
