The pledge, which was led by the Global Fashion Agenda, states that the brands will use methods like repurposing wasted material, and developing new recycling methods and technologies. According to the report, these brands will have implemented change by 2020 but a report to be published in May will track progress.
While it’s great to hear that many of our favorite brands like Zara and H&M are trying to make the necessary changes towards sustainability, there’s still more we need to do. For starters, you can let other retailers that are noticeably absent from the list know that this is a cause you care about. Next, you can also make a concerted effort to use the recycling programs these brands implement. We’ll be looking forward to seeing these changes that could have far-reaching effects not just in the industry, but the world at large.
