Nigeria generated Zero Megawatts of Electricity For Several Hours

I was completely drenched from the sweat running down my back as I wondered to myself why there was no light for almost 4 hours in the Nation’s Capital City – Abuja.

Little did I know that the entire nation had earlier produced NO megawatts of electricity and thus the distribution of load allocation that ensures we get some amount of electricity was affected.

According to Vangard, at exactly 12:58pm, there was a total system collapse of our power generation systems nationwide.

On the systems collapse, the nation got to Ground Zero, with all the Discos receiving zero megawatts allocation from the system operator, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

Although, Power was restored at about 3pm, the collapse caused a decline in the quantity each Disco was to collect.

According to Punch, there were blames on  the extent of destruction of infrastructure and gas pipelines vandalism that had happened in the industry over the past years, as well as the poor upgrade of power installations across the country.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, reassured Nigerians that the 10,000 megawatts of electricity generation target set by the administration would be attained by the end of 2019.
