To mark the World Cleanup day on Saturday, September 15 2018, SustyVibers from different parts of the countries came out in droves to cleanup their environment and educate people on the dangers of indiscriminate waste disposal on our streets, beaches, rivers and forests.
The Susty on the Streets Lagos team came out to clean the Ajegunle area of Lagos, we talked to the stakeholders, residents and children of the community, explaining in an understandable way the ills of a polluted environment.
It was at the Lagos outreach that the BBC World Service caught up with us and interviewed our founder; Jennifer Uchendu.
She talked about how the factors that contribute to environmental pollution; The failing waste management systems and the high population of people especially in Lagos state contributes to the increasing rate of pollution.
She commended the SustyVibes team who constantly volunteer their time, energy and passion to clean up one community at a time.
She also talked about how difficult it can get, trying to create awareness around the pollution in the country. “This job is frustrating” she said talking about the challenges faced trying to curb environmental pollution. “But it’s critical and important. The environment is important in safeguarding our future and that of the future generation”. She concluded.
