Armed with enthusiasm and a mission to introduce the SustyVibesUnipods program to the Covenant university our Project Manager at TEAP, Ayomide Olude, and our Communications Manager, Seyi Agboola, visited Covenant University in Ota for the CIMUN (Covenant International Model United Nations) conference.
Through SustyVibesUnipods programme are creating vibrant communities of sustainability enthusiasts within Nigerian universities. It a platform for students to take the lead in driving positive change and implementing sustainable initiatives.
When we arrived, we met the preliminary session for the day. This lasted till 11:00 AM and during this time we set up our stand at the opportunity fair. This opportunity fair also involved prominent Organisations like Enough is Enough (EiE), Ideation Hub Africa, Dune Chocolates, and more and we were excited to learn about their work and possibilities for collaboration.
Finally, it was time to talk to talk about work it was showtime! Ayomide took the stage, captivating the audience with an introduction to our work, our values, and our mission. Meanwhile, Seyi brought the excitement with an introduction to Unipods and all the fantastic benefits of joining. The students were all ears, eager to learn and engage. We loved the insightful questions that followed ranging from the impact of location on joining the community to the effects of climate change on women.
After the session, we returned to the stand and were met with eager and welcoming students interested in being a part of the community. There were a total of 220 students at the event and we had a total of 61 students sign up – 59 students from Covenant University and 3 students from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).
During our visit, we also had the incredible opportunity to meet with the Vice Chancellor of Covenant University. This meeting allowed us to discuss the program’s objectives, benefits, and potential collaboration opportunities with the university. Both our team members and the students at Covenant University expressed enthusiasm and excitement about the prospects and opportunities that lie ahead.
The enthusiasm and the support from the students and the university administration have reaffirmed our belief in the potential impact of this initiative. We’ll share more updates on the project as it develops.
