Organized by the Univeristy’s faculty of Law, this event is set to be the first of its kind to be organized by a University in Nigeria and indeed the West African sub region. It will accommodate potentially 700 delegates from different Universities and colleges within Nigeria. We had a chat with Pearle Nwaezeigwe, who is the current Deputy Secretary General of the Lagos Model United Nations and also a 500 level student of Law at the University of Lagos. Pearle is in charge of the overall coordination of the conference in terms of its substance. Making sure the delegates and staff work in line with the topics set out, reading various background guides for the committee and the position papers for the delegates attending. Awesome stuff right?

Read our brief chat below:

So what is the Model United Nations all about?

Model United Nations is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UNcommittees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences and is usually organized by univeristies.

Who attends this events? Students, young professionals or anybody?

Students from universities in Nigeria

When is the event and where is it holding?

August 4th – 6th 2016, it will hold at the University of Lagos, Akoka.

Are there invited speakers?

Yes, we would be inviting speakers for this event.

What does the programme of event look like?

We would simulate five committees; each committee has two topics to be addressed by the delegates.

The registration fee of 10,000 seems pretty high, can you justify the reason for the price?

The conference last for 3 days and all attendants gets placards tags and social packs like dinners, cocktails and a delegate dance. Believe me, this is the cheapest MUN ever. There have been MUNs organised by organisation going for as high as N50,000.

Are there early bird tickets?

Unfortunately, its a flat rate of N10,000.

Great, anything else you think we should know?

This Model UN is the first of its kind in my school, it has not been easy to get this far but with God on our side, we hope to pull a successful conference.

I simply do not see why any Nigerian student would not be part of this event; it is evidently the most thought out sustainability event for young people in Nigeria at the moment.

Please share this information with friends and students you know. I honestly cannot wait for August to come already!
