SustyVibes at 7: Eleyele Lake Tour

WesternVibers hosted an Intervibes session in Eleyele lake on April 15, 2023, to commemorate SustyVibes’ Big 7th anniversary, and there was lots of fun to go around. Our event’s objectives were to encourage sustainability in the lake neighbourhood and increase public awareness of climate change. We had a blast doing it, too!

We kicked off the day with a quick introduction to SustyVibes for the new faces and we also spelt out the reason for the event, so we could all have a sense of why we were having the lake tour. Our very own Omotoyosi Akande, the community manager for the Westernvibers, then explained what we were expected to achieve for the day and also the purpose of intervibes, which is supposed to gather thoughts and insights about people’s environment and how they can take part in being a positive force.

After that, we divided into pairs and went out into Eleyele’s streets with our tailor-made questions in hand. The residents were very open-minded, and we had no trouble conducting the interviews. Our intervibes session lasted for about 90 minutes before we got back together and headed for the main event – the boat cruise!

Boat Cruise

Now, our boat cruise was absolutely incredible. We were all handed life jackets, which we all really needed because none of us could swim! LOL! The boat transported us through the trees for ten minutes, and at one point we even thought we were heading into a denser forest! It was really an exciting experience.

We were all famished and ready for some nice cravings after the boat ride. Before our snacks arrived we enjoyed some ponmo (cow skin) – which was so delicious we wished it was the main meal! – and palm wine as we waited for our dinner to come. We mingled, played games, danced, and made new friends while fostering our old ones.

Finally! Our snacks and cake eventually arrived, and we all chowed down before bidding each other goodbye at 4:00 pm. But that wasn’t the end of the success of the day!

Thanks to Intervibes, we were able to educate the people of Eleyele about climate change and its effects. We also discovered a recycling hub within the community, which shows how Susty they are despite the environmental challenges they face. And we even had four new faces interested in joining our community!

Overall, Intervibes at Eleyele was a massive success. We had a blast, bonded with each other, and raised awareness about sustainability and climate change. And who knows, maybe next year’s anniversary event will be even more exciting!
