SustyVibes Unipods at Obafemi Awolowo University

Our team recently had an amazing time at the Pitch 3.0 Conference held at Obafemi Awolowo University. This event brought together university students from across the country to discuss sustainability and its relevance for national development. As a platform dedicated to making sustainability fun and actionable for young Africans, it was only natural for us to attend and share our passion for creating a sustainable future.

The theme of the event was “Green is the new Black, Harnessing the Power of Sustainability, Public Policy, and Investment Decisions.” It was all about highlighting the importance of sustainable practices and how they can positively impact our society. We were thrilled to be a part of the conversation and contribute our ideas and experiences to the mix.

Our Communications Manager, Oluwaseyi Agboola, who also happens to be an alumnus of the university, couldn’t contain her excitement to be back on campus. She believed that OAU was the perfect place for a SustyVibes Unipod community and events like this show  that more and more young people are excited about green opportunities and are ready to contribute to building sustainable communities. At the event, she had the opportunity to interact with enthusiastic students who were eager to join the Unipods Program, and we were able to sign up around over a dozen students.

One of the highlights of the event for our Head of Impact and Learning, Opeyemi Ogundeji was the “Sustain a Pitch Challenge,” an essay competition that focused on rethinking financial sustainability and navigating the intersection of finance, social responsibility, and environmental impact. As a judge Opeyemi had the exciting task of evaluating the presentations of six groups. We looked for feasibility, innovation, and creativity in their recommendations. It was inspiring to see these young minds come up with sustainable solutions and showcase their passion for making a positive impact.

She also took part in a panel discussion during the event. She shared her insights on why financing sustainability goes beyond being just a marketing buzzword. Drawing from her experiences at SustyVibes, she made the topic relatable to the audience, and her valuable contributions sparked meaningful discussions about the importance of sustainable finance for our future.

To top it all off, we were presented with an award to celebrate our support for the success of Pitch 3.0. It was an honor to be recognized for our dedication to promoting sustainability and empowering young people. We couldn’t be prouder of our team and the impact we’re making.

We’re excited about the direction we’re heading and the positive change we’re making together with the next generation of sustainability advocates with Unipods and the Pitch 3.0 event was an incredible experience for us. See a recap of the event here.
